Shopping in Turkey is a very special experience. The prices are low and in most places it is normal to haggle over prices - in fact it is almost expected of you.
Because of Turkey's sizeable cotton industry, clothing is cheap, as are carpets, both the knotted and kilim varieties. Among the other fascinating things you can buy are some of ours, pots and pans, onyx bowls, vases and ornaments.
Gastronomy
Turkish cuisine is a tremendous experience for most people, and some people maintain that apart from Italian and French cuisine it is the best in the world. Fast food is, of course, available in Turkey, but the Turks are very proud of their culinary art - and rightly so.
Turkish food is a mixture of Arabic, Greek and eastern and southern European cuisine. Vegetables - locally produced - such as tomatoes, aubergines, onions, red and green peppers with lamb, beef, chicken and spices are the main ingredients.
