About Alanya

Alanya –The Turkish Riviera

The bathing resorts along the Turkish Mediterranean coast, also referred to as the Azure Blue Coast, are the most popular destinations for Northern European tourists and holidaymakers.

The area around Alanya, with its kilometre-long sandy beaches is a particular favourite of Danes and other Scandinavians.

Throughout the entire area along the coast and the hinterland you will find a wealth of ancient monuments, amphitheatres, ancient towns and archaeological excavations dating right back to the early Stone Age, and the area also has many museums where you can trace the development of history and civilisation.

Bathing resorts are dotted along the coast to the east and west of the Alanya like a string of pearls. One of these results is Mahmutlar, situated approximately 10 km west of Alanya.°

In the hinterland along the Mediterranean coast rise in the Taurus Mountains.
In between the beaches in the mountains stretches green and luscious agricultural land with orange, lemon, apricot and banana plantations.

Many different sorts of vegetables are also grown here. They are exported as well as being sold locally.

On the 250 metre-high rocky peninsular in the centre of Alanya town is its landmark, the impressive fort, which dates back to the 13th century. The castle was built on the foundations of an even older fortress built by the Byzantines.

In Alanya you can experience the pulsating life this modern Mediterranean town with a permanent population of 150,000 has to offer.

Here you will find a wealth of shops, restaurants, bars and discotheques.

In step with the growing interest in Alanya and the acquisition of holiday apartments in the area, the town has spread towards the west and east along the Mediterranean coast, so that the town has almost melted together with the bathing resort Mahmutlar, where Pamfilia Residence is situated.

Mahmutlar is a small oasis where the predominant themes are relaxation and a friendly, peaceful atmosphere.

Throughout history, Alanya has been a favourite travel and holiday destination.

Among the first tourists were Anthony and Cleopatra, who spent their honeymoon in the area.

Many hundreds of years later, the Turkish Mediterranean coast has developed into a modern tourist area with an excellent infrastructure and every thinkable modern facility - and the development continues.

Today the coast is served by the international airport in Antalya, and a new international airport is expected to be built near Alanya.
